A friend of mine does ontology engineering and he has a product. He helps me to understand it and I tried to explain it here in this article. But I was told that it is not really ontology but something else. I do not care how it is called, but I think that the engineering part here is brilliant and as far as I understand your article, this is exactly what you advocate for. As a term, ontology has been ported over from philosophy to give some gloss to computing. Unfortunately it is a version of philosophical ontology from 100 years ago, from early Wittgenstein, before he realised it was wrong.
It is just moving the the bottleneck. It is not solving anything.
